• Ferry connections are timed against a named sailing rather than a rough hour, because check-in closes well ahead of departure. The run from North Delta takes longer than most people allow for, since it crosses the whole municipality.
• Vancouver International Airport (YVR) transfers can take Highway 99 or Highway 91, and the choice between them is a morning-by-morning decision. The Massey Tunnel is the constriction, and it decides more northbound departures here than any other single factor.
• Cross-border runs begin closer to the line here than from anywhere north of the river, since the municipality sits on the approach most of the region uses heading south.
• Corporate work follows the industrial land, among the fastest growing in Greater Vancouver, where visiting operations people commonly fly in and out on the same day.
• Cruise departures run the opposite way, north to Canada Place, and they leave early enough that the tunnel is rarely an issue.

Four Addresses That Set the Rhythm Here

Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal sits 36 km from downtown Vancouver at the southwest end of Highway 17. Sailings run to Swartz Bay, both Nanaimo terminals and the Southern Gulf Islands. Summer weekends and long weekends are the pinch points, and foot passengers avoid the cost of leaving a car at the terminal altogether.

Check-in on a booked sailing closes 30 minutes ahead of departure, not at departure, and 40 minutes for vehicles bound for the Gulf Islands. Miss that window and the booking is void, leaving you to board by order of arrival like everyone else.

Ladner is a heritage fishing village on the Fraser, holding Delta City Hall, the hospital and the agricultural heart of the municipality. Most of our wedding bookings here land between May and September, and anniversary work follows the same season. Westham Island farms and the historic buildings along Arthur Drive draw the photography stops that stretch a booking by an hour.

Boundary Bay Regional Park runs 24 km of trail from Centennial Beach up to Mud Bay, and it is an internationally recognized bird area on the Pacific Flyway. Two different seasons matter. Summer brings beach traffic to Centennial. Autumn and winter bring birders, who arrive early and want collecting at odd hours.

North Delta Recreation Centre anchors the largest of the three communities and carries the civic calendar for that side of the municipality. Cultural events through autumn pull crowds from well beyond the boundary, and group bookings around them behave nothing like ferry work: several collections spread across North Delta and the Surrey line, then a late return by the same route.

The Luggage Usually Decides the Car

Ferry deadlines and long rural roads shape the choice more than passenger numbers do.

• Two people heading north to a flight, with cases that fit a boot, take our Mercedes S Class. This is the most common Delta booking we take.
• A week on the Island changes the arithmetic entirely, and cruise cases defeat most saloons, so our Chevrolet Suburban carries luggage and passengers in one vehicle.
